Claire Our test participant, Claire, was impressed by the packaging. It was simple to open and clean. She found it to be one of the simplest and most efficient pieces of baby equipment to set up. She tried it on some rough terrain and was impressed with its performance.
Seats
The majority of triple buggies begin life as single pushchairs, but some can be converted to take an additional seat or carrycot by converting adapters (these are typically more common in tandem buggies). Some models allow you to add an extra board for older children who are ready to walk, but still require assistance.
Check out the Joie Evalite Duo for an ideal, lightweight solution for urban streets. It's easy to move and comes with a deep basket with plenty of storage space. It can be used for twins beginning at birth and accepts two car seats, or a carrycot with seat. However, the seats need to be oriented forward and there's no room for a shopping bag underneath which is why you'll need a sidepack for that.
If you're looking to travel off-road and off-road, the Mountain Buggy Duet is a excellent option. It's a side by side with the smallest footprint of any double buggy available on the market. It's much easier to get through narrow doors on public transport, and to climb over and over kerbs. It also has a handbrake on the adjustable handlebar for extra security and safety.
The UPPAbaby vista 2 double is another lightweight option that is suitable for twins or a toddler and a baby. The seats come with multi-position recline and UPF 50+ sunshades, and the canopy can be adjusted to keep the sun from your child's eyes. The Vista 2 can be converted into a triple by adding UPPAbaby’s "PiggyBack" board, which is designed for older children.
The iCandy Orange double buggies are one of the most popular on the market. This is due to their outstanding comfort. It is a true all terrain pushchair, with a soft suspension to make easy work of bumpy surfaces. Alternately, the phil&teds dots is a great single buggy from the beginning that is able to easily be adapted to take 2 (or 3!) in multiple configurations. 3 wheeled pushchair is particularly helpful for parents with children in a car seat as the frame can be equipped with a wedgie that allows for optimal position, and also car seat adapters to many brands.
Suspension
The suspension of a double 3 wheel buggy will determine the ease with which you and your child/children can push it. It is important to have a smooth ride, as babies can feel every bump that comes along the road. This is particularly relevant if you drive on rough terrain, such as grass or unpaved roads. Some models have locking front tires that help maneuver and get over obstacles like curbs.
Certain models come with air-filled tyres that are great for all-terrain riding, but they can be prone punctures. Make sure you have an extra set of tyres inside the trunk. Other models use gel or foam tyres, designed to withstand bumps and are less prone to punctures however, you might find them to be a bit stiff and uncomfortable on your child's back should you decide to run.

MFM reviewer Kath tried the Urban Glide 2 with her three-year-old and newborn, and found it to be very capable on difficult terrain. "It navigated effortlessly across bumpy sidewalks and grass cobbles, dirt, and tracks. It was also easy for me to maneuver around corners and climb up and down kerbs." The 16" rear wheels, combined with the lockable swivel wheels on the front, make it an extremely safe jogging experience. The Urban Glide 2 has a variety of features, like large seats with padded cover as well as a hood that has 50+ UV protection and rechargeable and easy-to use visibility lights.
Folding
A three-wheel double buggy could be folded up easily to store it. There are models that fold flat and stand up (as as if they were the form of a pushchair) and also are able to open up to reveal more umbrella-style folding, with an operated break. In general, the more wheels a buggy has, the easier it will be to handle over rough terrain. This is especially true if the wheels are bigger than the typical size. You will have more stability and it will be less likely that you will need to tip over or flip your child.
The iCandy Wave is a popular choice. It can be used in conjunction with an infant car-seat from birth and then transformed into a double buggy side-by-side when your child is old. It's a lightweight option that is simple to push. It also comes with a bumper bar and rain cover.
Another option is the phil&teds sport which is future-proof because it's a fantastic single buggy from day dot and can be adapted to accommodate 2 (or even three!) in its small footprint. It features a clever design of three wheels with a sling for better manoeuvrability and stability.
This is one of the most comfortable double buggies to jog in with your children. It features a lockable front wheel that will allow you to maintain control on rough terrain or off-road. It also has a spacious undercarriage basket, an adjustable handlebar, and a soft suspension to ensure an enjoyable ride.
It's a lightweight and compact model that can be folded in one hand and is ideal for travel. It is compatible with many infant car seats, and it comes with a handy undercarriage basket to store items. It's not cheap, but it has some notable features, like its one-click folding, as well as a variety of additional features, such as bumper bars or raincovers.
Storage
One thing that many people love about a quality 3 wheel double buggy is the storage capacity. Some models like the Roma Atlas offer a generously-sized basket as well as two handy zip pockets in the hood that keep keys and your phone easily accessible. It's also designed to cope with rough terrain, making it a great choice for family walks and all-terrain walks.
Other models, like the UPPAbaby Vista 2, offer plenty of space and the ability to transport twins or a child and a toddler. (This is made possible by their 'PiggyBack' system). It's the most compact side-by-side double on the market and it comes with some amazing tech including game-changing LED visibility lights that change on each side of the frame to increase safety in dim lighting conditions.
For something different, the Joie Evalite Duo is a light buggy that can hold twins from birth (it's facing the world and can be used in a lie flat position). The clever frame can be expanded to accommodate a second seat but it still only weighs in at around 11kg, which makes it easy to lift and manoeuvre. It can also accommodate the form of a car seat or a carrycot, allowing you to get the best of both worlds and it can help you save money in the future since you don't need to invest in another buggy immediately.
